Hi all. My husband and I are planning a trip to Norfolk VA and will be staying at The Residence Inn which is about a mile from norfolk international airport. I am just wondering if anyone here has experience with staying at a hotel that is right by an airport. I am a light sleeper and am wondering if the noise of planes flying over the hotel will keep me up at night.. Any info on this would be appreciated. Thanks.
Most airport don't have flights going out overnight, some have flights coming it but I don't believe Norfolk International is that busy of an airport to cause you any problems.
Looking at where the hotel is situated, it appears that you will have no problems. The planes take off and land towards the bay and away from your hotel. I would think you would have more noise from the adjacent I-64. Hope that helps. Take care.
Just don't let them give you a room close to the desk/laundry/ restaurant and you should be fine. But I would definately bring the ear plugs along Have fun!
Yes, hotels by airports are usually quite disquieting at night. I recommend a pair of earplugs to help block the noise. The other situation I have found - hallway noise. Being near the airport, travelers come and go at strange hours and all night long. Norfolk may have a "buffer" zone and a bit quieter, I have never been there. I do know Minneapolis and Chicago hotels that close are constantly buffetted by jet engine noise.
