I am planning to be in Australia and NZ for about 10-20 days (flexible) in the first half of March, 2013. Wanted to know the transport options between different Australian cities and connections with NZ (along with the rough costs, if possible and suggestions for any train passes etc. that may be available).
Also, I have no idea as to how many should I plan to spend in each of Sydney, Melbourne, Perth/Adelaide/Brisbane/Canberra, Auckland, Wellington/Christchurch (suggestions are welcome for any other more interesting destinations).
I am travelling alone and would love if any of you plan to be in Australia around the same time and would like to join me.
I have never done hitch-hiking (do want to try it at-least once, seems like an experience to me!), so would that be safe enough trying it in Australia, would you recommend the same? (if at all, I would like to try the same between Melbourne/Sydney/Canberra as it is relatively shorter stretch and the most well-connected i.e. a large number of commuters). Every time I plan a hitch hike, the Lonely Planet advisory against it spoils the same, so positive experiences, especially in Australia, would be very welcome
All help in planning is appreciated.
