I'm flying to Sydney first, then travelling up the east coast.. Been thinking about doing NZ after Australia. Then hoping to move onto Cambodia, Vietnam & Thailand. Pretty much just going with the flow and hoping to meet people along the way, who want to visit as many places as possible :)

So be good to find others with the same plan?

Hi...just looked through this thread and it is so reassuring to see so many people going on their own too!!

I land in Melbourne on 4th January and am hoping to either get work there for a couple of months or move on to somewhere else, depending how much I like it there. Is anyone else in Melbourne at a similar time or planning on doing a similar thing? Would be nice to know a couple of people before getting out there and the whole camper-van idea sounds awesome!

Hi Kellie!

Thanks for messaging me! :)

I land on the 4th in Melbourne and have my first ten nights booked at the Nomads All Nations hostel. Do you have any accommodation booked yet?

I'm just gonna try and go with the flow as much as possible I think! I hope to take about £5000 but I have a working visa so I am going to work out there. I might stay in Melbourne for just a few weeks/month and not work there as I will have enough to not have to work for a month or so. But if I love it there I might try and get work there and stay for a couple of months! Then I plan to move on to Sydney and hopefully get work there and maybe settle for a couple of months. Then up to Brisbane and hopefully do the same there. And then maybe end in Cairns just to do the barrier reef e.c.t.

I definitely want to travel up the east coast, I'm thinking about doing the greyhound bus thing because one of my friends did that and he said it's the cheapest/easiest way to travel! Do you plan to travel up the east coast too?!

Are you planning to work out there or just travel? There's loads I want to see and do but going to have to fit it around work because I want to stay as long as possible and just can't afford it without working!

Hi I'm also going to Australia in jan 2014, from England. I live in Hertfordshire. Stopping off at Perth first, then Adelaide, Melbourne and then going up along the Gold Coast up to cairns and then going to ayres rock. Looking to spend about 4/5 months there. Gonna go to Fiji after but only for a week as a holiday and was planning to go to New Zealand but not sure anymore. Really want to go but don't particularly on my own as like you say it's scary and it's better to share the experience with someone else. I'll be 21 in December btw x
