Hi there,

My girlfriend and I are planning our holiday for this year. We are planning on flying into Ho Chi Minh (cheaper than flying into Hanoi) and then getting an internal flight straight up to Hanoi.

We will be visiting Vietnam for 2-3 weeks so we only have a short time there. It would be good to hear people’s views on which part of the country they preferred and why to help us with our decision....

We have interests in everything from culture, history, food, beaches etc. This is where we have been advised to see but we are not too sure how long to spend in each place.....

• Hanoi
• Sapa
• Halong Bay
• Hue
• Hoi An
• HCMC

I hope to hear from you guys soon :)

Plenty of info on the net of each place you have stated. Maybe read what others have done on travelblogs.com

Well, there are few more places that you can visit start from HCMC

  • My Tho or Can Tho (Mekong Delta): islets with exotic fruits, snake farm, floating market....
  • Mui Ne: a coastal not too far from HCMC: beach, cheap seafood and some sandy hills to play...
  • Da Lat: mountain areas: cool weather, lovely city with French architecture..
  • Nha Trang: the most beautiful coastline in Vietnam

Hope these can help

There are over 20 million motorbikes in Vietnam, more than 3.5 million of which can be found on the streets of Ho Chi Minh City, which averages at nearly one motorbike for every two persons.

Try to ride a motorbike when you arrive Ho Chi Minh city, if lucky, u can find some nice students want to be your tour guide, dont mind asking them about a tour by motorbike. But be carefull some bad guys, ask about the price before using any services.

From HCM, u can go out for Cu Chi tunnels for some history range. Mekong delta with lots of exotic fruits and canals, u can book a tour at your hotel about 250,000 VND (~13USD)

Enjoy your trip :)

I would not rent a motorbike in HCMC. Huge downside, no upside. If you want the 'thrill' of riding on a MB, hire one and let a VN driver take the risks. Mui Ne was worth a stop because of the sand dunes, not the beach. Nha Trang is a much better choice IMO if you want beach/party. DaLat was my fave city in VN. Allow a few days if you can. Good luck with your planning.
