Hello,

I just wondered if anyone is travelling to the land down under next month?

How are you feeling about it? Im excited but also quite nervous! I pretty much have everything sorted ie flights, visa, hostel, insurance, tax number etc.

Anyone else in the same boat, and can you recommend any vital things i need to pack please?

Thanks x

Hi,

I'm thinking about going to Australia in march and spend about 2 months traveling and probably work something to (if I can get a working visa). But I'm really nervous to do this on my own, all my friends have a boyfriend or they're just not interested in traveling. I recently graduated from college so I really want to travel before I go to university.. But I would love to go if I could meet someone who's willing to travel with me!

Soffia xx

Hiya. I am in the same boat as you :) fly out in 3 weeks time (20th feb to Perth) little bit nervous but mainly excited. I have pretty much everything sorted other than insurance. Do you have a return flight booked? Not many insurance companies cover you unless your trip starts and ends in the uk so make sure you read the small print. I don't know any vital things you should pack other than the obvious but from speaking to other girls they all say not to take heels as no girls wear them out there. Where are you flying to?

You can't get a tax file number until you're physically in Australia. Once you are, it's a simple process of filling in the online forms here (down for maintenance at the time of writing, but should be up again soon). See here for more information.

No need to open a bank account until you're there, either. When you are, within your first few weeks of arriving in the country, walk into any bank branch with your passport and AUD $50 for an initial deposit, tell them not to send you bank statements, and give them your hostel's address for your debit card (which'll arrive a few days to a week later). Then you online banking to transfer money from home to your Australian bank (or ask a family member to do this).

Hi All.

I will be Flying into Australia on the 6th March, First stop is Perth!. I'm so excited and a little nervous at the same time. I pretty much have everything sorted also...now just deciding what back pack to purchase :) Just going to try and get some work for a few months then plan to travel around. I have a few friends in Queensland and Sydney so will hopefully be able to meet up with them too.

I'm also a little unsure of the vital things i will need to pack!?

DenKav- I fly 19th February and im flying into Brisbane. I was debating on heels too, think i will just take some fancy flats then for a night out :-)

Chris L - I did my tax through STA travel and then a woman rang me going through my details and said that my tax number will be ready for me as soon as i arrive in Aus. I havent set up a bank account, going to do that there. All i have at minute is a cash card, to put my money on!

DarlingRi - Congrats on finishing Uni, you off out to celebrate? Its my last day at work tomorrow i cant wait for that haha
