Quoting Joz

Anne, I got to meet her and King Hussain at Mayo in Rochester! It was while he was undergoing chemotherapy. They were so polite and so kind..it was only a 10 minute conversation and they were surrounded by hmm..what would you call them? Their secert service guys? bodyguards? Whatever they were...they were very kind too...even the King had to wait in a hallway with his backless gown on;)

Joz, you and I may have crossed paths at Mayo... My father was there for chemo during 2 of Hussein's visits. Though you were luckier than me - meeting he and the Queen - I kept riding the elevators and having coffee with 2 of his bodyguards. Both guards accompanied him on both trips.

Back to topic:

Sudan - genocide, starvation, etc
Antartica - not really a country, just too damn cold

Ahem...I had a friend of mine at the Mayo Clinic for about a year...he kept going up there for treatment, he passed away last year though. His name was Henry "Bud" Brady...does that count?

Yes it does! Welcome to ther Mavens of Mayo club!

My mother had been treated there also, 9 years before my dad. They both had the same oncologist and surgeon - the oncologist was also King Hussein's primary.

to avoid?
What's the country you don't want to travel to and why?
I've heard quite many horror stories about Turkey so that's the place I wouldn't want to go to and also I've heard that India is quite crazy place aswell...

why not Turkey ??? I'm going there in May (I just booked my tickets , now I have to beg my boss for time off)....just for a week but its a start, flying into Istanbul and take it from there......

Also I've heard India is crazy but also a must see place.....

I think the places to avoid are dependent on what you are looking for in a country and what type of person you are ......

I went to Istanbul a few years back and it was great. It is a great city.

Raven, be sure to have an afternoon walking round the grand bazaar. I seem to remember a few great bars underneath the Istanbul side of the main bridge that goes across the river. Sounds a bit vague i know, but you will know what i mean when you see the bridge (i hope). It may have changed now though, that was about 10 years ago.

Thats great Raven! My original vacation plans for this year were Turkey/Greece but I went with SE Asia instead...I had to put Turkey on the back burner for now. I am dying to go there...so much to see, so little time. Dont forget to post some good pics!

My friend went to Israel,Tel aviv couple of years ago and she had a great time out there. But I guess that Tel aviv is not the craziest part of Israel right?

Cheers,Minna
