Hi everyone! I'm planning on travelling SE Asia in August too...I will be flying to Bangkok in August and backpacking for 3 weeks! It would be great to meet up out there...is anyone up for this? I'm a teacher too :-)

Me and my friends are also planning to fly go Thailand from Chennai. May be after this summer. As of now we've a plans to visit Pattaya, Phuket and Bangkok. We've already started searching the flights and hotels. It seems like Air Asia is having the low airfare while I'm searching for the same at -snip-but not sure whether the prices stay like that or increased by that time. However, still want to know if there is any other airline that may have offers for round flights.

Coming to the hotels, I found Loma Resort as a better one at Pattaya. Still, searching hotels for the other two places. Does, any one have suggestions for hotels in Bangkok and Puket?

[ Edit: Sorry, no promos please. ]

Hey everyone,

Sounds like a lot of people in this thread have similar plans to me!

I'm landing in Bangkok on the 12th August staying just off Khao San Road for a few days to get my bearings and adjust. After that I'm heading straight up to Koh Phangan for the full moon party on the 21st with my accommodation already booked after being persuaded by members of this forum

That's as far as my plan extends at the moment. I'm weighing up the options of either seeking out volunteering places or heading for scuba diving paradise to get certified after the fmp.

I've done solo travel before and while you meet plenty of people out there and rarely spend time actually alone (unless you choose to), it would be nice to make arrangements with people before I fly to ease that "Oh s*#t bother, now what do I do?!" feeling when you first land in a new country alone.

Ultimately I want to spend a month or two in SE Asia then move on to Oz with a work visa. If anyone has similar plans (Full moon party 21st, scuba diving, volunteering, Oz) and wants to meet up or form groups give me a shout :)

Thanks!

I am beginning my travels on August 10th. I fly from London to Bangkok. I plan to stay there for a few nights then go island hopping. I have been to STA to price introductory tours –the idea that I would meet some likeminded people as I am travelling on my own. They seemed overpriced , some were around the £500 mark. It seems an all-round better option to meet people on here and arrange an literary. I definitely want to be in Koh Phangan for August 21st for the full moon party.

I intend to travel around Thailand and the islands then on to Cambodia, Vietnam Laos etc. Following that Bali, I have a flight booked from Denpasar to Australia.

If your timings and plans similar…talk to me!

Really interested in your plans, I'm in Australia currently so I would be flying back to the UK rather than heading here again! I haven't a clue really where to start with Thailand and your plans sound pretty good :)

Working currently so was looking to go after July, August sounds cool.

Deffinately feel I need a travel buddy/buddies for Thailand as its slightly different safety wise than Oz!

Hey I'm also nervous about my lone travels to Thailand. It would be great to try and arrange something with people. Setting out alone is a scary prospect!!!

Hello!! I too intend to spend 3 weeks backpacking alone within thailand sometime between the 5th- 29th August, flying from Bristol or Birmingham to Bangkok. I am extremely keen to see the islands aswell, but i'm a bit weary of the Full Moon party, as i've read on another forum that illegal drugs are fairly rife (but that might just be the opinion of just a few) I'm concerned about the weather a bit too, as August is the peak rainfall season, and I had images of spending time on beaches, or going on an outdoor activity package! Other than this, i've read on many blogs and forums that travelling alone is the best way to do it! ;) Plenty of people will be going it alone!
