Asia (Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, India) on a budget of $50 - 100 per day for as long as you can afford to go. Keeping in mind you need air fares to get to Asia (or wherever) in the first place, travel insurance, tourist visas, food money etc etc etc ...

As for Italy... I wouldn't have a clue...

If you're from the US your best bet is to try Central/South America. Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua are good budget options - and they're beautiful countries.

Hey Zoe,

How about Eastern Europe? If you want to make your money stretch and see some of Europe that's where I'd go.

Italy is fantastic - if u want any specific help PM me....although you would probably end up spending quite a bit there.

Try South America, problem is you'll have to go alone. EG: Without a travel operator etc. That'll be expensive, if you plan your route yourself and research thoroughly you should be ok.

Hello! well if you are on a budget, Italy would not be really a country to visit. Although sometimes the train tickets from city to city could be very cheap, the cities themselves could be rather costly. It really depends where you want to go. If you want to visit historical places, I have heard that Eastern Europe is pretty cheap, if you want to visit sandy beaches then SouthEast Asia is the place to go. I have heard that places like Thailand and Indonesia are beautiful and very cheap, speacially now after the tsunami those countries are in need of tourism in order to help them economically. But if you really want to visit Europe, you could plan a trip to Eastern and then finish in South East by croatia and all those countries. Supposedly they are rather cheap as well as pretty. Hope I helped somehow!

Mexico and Central America can probably be done on $30 to $40 a day easily, you can get by on around $20 a day if you really watch your pennies. Costa Rica is more expensive than surrounding countries. As already mentioned, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua are good on the pocketbook. I haven't been, but understand $20 or $30 a day would do quite nicely there.

I did Chile, Argentina and Bolivia for $40 a day back in 2003. Chile is more expensive than Argentina. Bolivia is very inexpensive. All are quite beautiful.

If you are interested in Italy, than Argentina might be a good option. Buenos Aires is very European - you can do all the things you might do in Europe at a fraction of the cost.

Italy can get pricy, been to Venice (expensive), Milan (expensive) but if you choose to stay in hostals and eat al-paso pizza all the time you can probably do it on $50-$70 a day.

To start, if I were you and on a budget, I would hit SE Asia. The budget saopsuds posted here seems on the high side. I am going in April and the average budget per day is $20 but if I really really wanted to be tight, I could knock it down to $15. This is US dollars by the way. The extra expenses come when you have to pay to get into temples and specific sites and of course bus fares which are not that expensive anyway. You will have an amazing culture experience on very little money. Good luck!

You're right areinstein... My BF and I have a budget of $50 per day for the two of us... so I guess drop that first quoted budget of mine down to $25!
