I'm potentially looking at heading to SEA...along with a few other places (not quite made my mind up yet!)...for three months.

I've been told it's going to be rainy season, should I avoid and head elsewhere?

I've got 3 months and £4k so I'm guessing I could live pretty well in SE Asia?

It really depends what part of SE Asia you will be in during the summer months. I was there last summer and spent a few weeks in Langkawi( Malaysia) and found it rained more there than in Indonesia. Again this will differ with what parts of Indonesia you will go to. Also the rain in SE Asia is something else, it's warm and when your sitting in a bar shack drinking a Bintang or whatever Asian beer you have at hand, it's pretty much bliss! Well that's my opinion.

Thailand is must see, all usual places like Grand Palace etc. Chiang Mai is worth a visit as well as Ayoutha which is a train journey from BKK. Spend time walking around the temples and visiting the hidden Bhudda in the tree. Chiang Mai will be 13 hours on the sleeper train but it is worth it. Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, Koh Tao, Phuket are also nice but gets very touristy so take the beaten track.

Cambodia is also beautiful- Angkor Wat and if you're feeling up to it there is the Killing Fields and the school that was changed to a prison. It's very harrowing but gives you insight into what happened. It's also nice to sit beside the lakes, watch tai-chi in the gardens, eat French baguettes and experience what the country has to offer.

Vietnam is amazing- again has history and the scenery is breathtaking. I'd elaborate but there's so much to do!!!

Malaysia what can I say? My 3rd home- again it can be much to take in but you're in Asia lol.

Indonesia- beautiful! Borobudur temple in Yogkajakarta as well as Prambanan temple. Bali is also a must see and take a visit to the Gili islands- no mopeds, no cars just bicycles and horses. Smallest islands but worth the visit!

Hope this helps and that is more than enough money for Asia!!!!!

Im going to SEA at the same time as you.. I have had a head ache reading all sorts of info on weather...

As far as I can tell its ok around this time... I have been in Thailand in may and only had a little rain.. Northern Sumatra is supposed to be dry this time..

My only slight concern was my book mentions Typhoon's can hit the central coast region of Vietnam in April/May and July...

Some ferry services in Indonesia around this time might be best avoided also..

You could live like a king for 4k in SEA, even though prices in Thailand seem scandalous compared to when I went last! I'm doing them 2 months on 1500! I almost did half of central and most of South America on 5k!

Thanks for all the info!

You've hit another of my dilemmas. SE Asia or central and south america for the 3months. I dont think I could really do both...can you give me a little insight on how you found the two?

Thanks

:)
