Maybe the original poster (who is posting (t)his message on several forums ;-) should stay away from the world ...

At Banco do Brazil the limit is still (up to today 19/03/2013) a 1000R$ per card per day.
Some banks like Bradesco have a 600R$ limit.

European travelers should veryfy if their card is usable out of Europe, some banks blocked the access but simply reopen it on demand (and for free)

It’s like that in many countries, the simplest solution around the problem is getting an extra ATM card that doesn’t charge a transaction fee (except for the normal currency markup).

Furthermore, it is a lot safer to have at least two cards. It’s a great security in case it get lost/stolen or someone scans the card at the ATM or otherwise misuses it. I only have a limited amount money on the card i’m carrying when i’m traveling. The other one I keep in safe storage.
