Hi everyone, does anyone know how I go about getting a visa for India? I'm planning a two month backpacking trip from start of June to end of July.

I've heard it's easier to get one beforehand, rather than try and get one on entry, is this true?

Thankyou,

Chris

Last time I checked, it is not "difficult" to get a visa on entry - it is IMPOSSIBLE.
You must apply for one in advance.
The way you do this is to apply at the Indian embassy in the country that you are in. It's often easier to do if you are in your home country, but if you are already travelling, the embassy where you are will work. I'm sure your Indian embassy has a website with all the information that you need to apply. It's also possible if you are in a big city, that you might find a travel agent, especially one specializing in Indian travel, who might be able to arrange your visa. But usually they just charge a fee to do the same leg work that you can do on your own.
