Hi everyone,

I hope somebody can help... Well basically i'm travelling to Australia and was wondering which is the best bank account to have for free withdrawals and also no monthly fees? Plus a bank that is helpful always helps :-)

All advice is appreciated :-)

NAB doesn't have monthly fees, and it has quite a few ATMs across the country as well as branches.

So, one of the big 4 banks in Australia feels the need to spam on a forum - or at least a Business Development Manager (according to LinkedIn) in their London base does. New user account, 3 posts all advertising their company. Not looking good for that bank.

I work in the Australian banking industry. I would recommend Commonwealth or ANZ. They are 2 of the larger banks so you won't have many problems finding an ATM and all Australian banks are safe. I'm with commonwealth and only pay $4 a month for my (smart access account.) The online banking and customer service over the phone is so good I barely ever have to visit a branch and you may be able to apply online prior to arriving here! Hope this helps and Good luck!!

Hi, I would recommend the Commonwealth they are extremely helpful and you can set up an account before you leave and transfer your money accross ... woooo!

i have had a bank with commonwealth when first got there because got 6 months free of fees through visa company i applied with. Then cancelled and got Nab as no monthly fees. but also got westpac with my partner who are good bank also but $4 monthly fees so i would say nab for less money but overall the banks were all as good as each other. No issues with any of them

cheers
