haha would be good if I am! I would probably go to Cairns first but you can't get a direct flight there from Bali, really annoying! But I would be up for going to Cairns pretty soon after I arrive in Brisbane as I can come back after :)

It's so good to hear from other people who are going! Your all making me really excited now!

Do you have working holiday visas as well? When are you going to be getting there James?

Michelle - glad I'm not the only one with no plan yet! Have you ever been to oz before?

Had my WHV since August, I hear it's gone up in price quite a lot since then! :( I leave London 3rd June for Bali, at the moment I arrive in Oz 3rd July but have the option to change my flight date if I want to, I might stay there for up to 6 weeks as there's lots of things I want to do! A year in Australia and then New Zealand, only 3 months to go!

Have you had any more thoughts about where you want to go to first? :)

Hi there everyone!

Great choice, Australia!

I've been there for 4 months in 2010 but it was too little to get to know everything!
Wendy, it is quite easy for you to get a job (provided your visa allows you to get one) either in a bar or fruit picking. In fact, I think almost all of the fruit industry is supported by travellers in Australia!

Be prepared to spend a lot of money. Things aren't cheap over there. The place I was most impressed with was probably the red centre (-snip-).

If you're looking for party, you have to go up to the whitsundays (-snip-). I spent 3 days in a boat just sailing around and partying all day and all night!

It was epic.

Anyway, pretymuch anywhere you go there are backpackers everywhere so you'll never be alone. If you're planning to rent a car and drive around, be sure to plan a little. Stuff isn't available as in Europe or the US! It's a wild place!

Hope you have fun

Heya

Yeah i went to Sydney a few years ago for a 3 week holiday and loved it! Wanted to go back ever since and feel like this is my chance to go. I have got a working holiday visa and am looking at booking on to an Sydney intro package so i can meet people straight away and have support finding jobs etc. as i will need to work to get more money for my travels :)
I definatly would like to travel the East Coast but apart from that i don't have a specific plan as i am quite happy to go with the flow and see where things take me.
How are you getting on with your ideas/plans? x

From what you guys have been saying and from doing a bit more research I'm considering starting in Brisbane now. Can always move down the coast if I don't like it and go to Melbourne or Sydney.

I imagine there's a big influx of backpackers around Oct/Nov when it starts getting hot again so I'd like to get to the bigger cities earlier than that because I guess there's not so much comptition for jobs that way.

The only thing I know for definite that I want to try is skydiving whilst I'm out there! I've always wanted to try it and am feeling advenurous so why not do it now!

I just want to go there now! I've been looking forward to handing my notice in at work for months!!

It took me a while to decide on Brisbane but just glad I've got that decision out the way now and can look to plan things :) but I think it's a good choice. There seem's to be some good places relatively near there to visit as well - Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Hervey Bay, Byron Bay etc.

I've looked at Ozskydiving.com.au which is based in Brisbane, I don't want to look at how much it is but it's something that has to be done isn't it! Might as well cram as much exciting stuff into a year as I do nothing in the UK! My work have just given me a pay-rise and they have no idea I'm leaving in 3 months haha!

I think I'm going to try make some decisions this weekend so I can start getting excited about the trip! I suppose wherever you end up there's going to be loads to do but from reading other posts Brisbane would be a cheaper place to live than Melbourne/Sydney and the weather is a plus (coming from Wales tho I'm happy if the temperature is over 10 degrees and not raining!)

Yeah sky diving and scuba diving are the two things I want to get done whilst I'm there. Not going to get much of a chance once I come back.

That pay rise will come in handy for your trip! Could do with one of them myself!!

Cool, am definitely starting to get excited about it now, I hope to get my Open Water Diving Certificate whilst in Bali so can hit the reef when I get to Cairns :) Let me know what you decide as we will be going around the same time or add me on facebook (link on my profile) :)
