I imagine there's a big influx of backpackers around Oct/Nov when it starts getting hot again so I'd like to get to the bigger cities earlier than that because I guess there's not so much comptition for jobs that way.

Just to thow in my two cents....I'm looking to land in Oz mid August time. (Have the visa sorted, just need to save some money and book the flights) From what i've been told from talking to friends that have already been yo Oz is to do the travelling 1st, before heading into Sydney/Melbourne.

What im thinking is to start in Cairns and work my way down to Meblourne possibly on to Perth after (depending on time/work/money)...Jobs are supposed to be handy enough to find, again from who iv been told and what iv seen on other fourms, alot of places hire on the spot and some hostels provide a bed and food in return for a few hours work...

Hi Anna! I land in Sydney at the end of may also alone iv booked a hostel at coogee beach for my first week then just take things from there! If you are still in Sydney we should meet up! I'm the same as you but daunted but excited at the same time!

I was gonna stay in Coogee but I'm staying in Sydney yha railway hostel for the first 10 days or so, hopefully I'll have all the sights done & handed out a few cv's defo up for meeting up

anyone will be there in Perth this coming week? I will be travelling there alone! =)
