Personally, I think they're way more trouble than they're worth. They're heavy, ungainly and instantly mark your backpack as, "there's something valuable in here." A good measure of how many people fall out of love with them on the road is reflected in how many are offered for re-sale. At my hostel in Uruguay last month four girls travelling with them had put up all four of theirs for sale.

I do like some of the PacSafe products though. I use this for my laptop, camera, lenses, back-up hard drives and all other valuables. It's very light and it rolls up quite small, it hardly takes up any room in my backpack. It's strong enough that it will thwart all normal crimes of opportunity so it gives me peace of mind in a hotel/hostel or when I leave my seat on the train to go to the bathroom, etc.

To secure my backpack I use a simple cable and padlock, that's enough to keep it from wandering and there's nothing in it I can't afford to lose anyway - clothes, hygiene products, etc. are all easy to replace.

Have fun.

Cheers,
Terry

cool thanks Terry, I got mine off ebay so didnt pay what you would new. So if its no good Ill do away with it.But being a 28yr old f lone traveller im trying to just cover my bases. I'm not naive enough to believe that its fool proof but may just add peace of mind. Like you said I wont have anything of great value in there.

Plus insured up to y eyeballs lol.

Cheers.
