Hey Guys.
Im sure this has been covered by others but thought I'd ask.

Im heading out to Oz (Adelaide) with 2 friends on 8th April 2013, flying with Emirates and should be there 9th April (late evening)

Ive sent my online application for Commonwealth Bank and that can take up to 2 days for a response via email. Do I just go to the Branch, confirm my indenity and they send out the bank card via post?

I also need to set up a tax file number, but I want to get it set up before I get to Oz. On the tax file number website it states I have to be in Australia when I apply for the TFN, Could I be naughty and just apply for it a few days before I fly out? I could give them the hostel address so by the time I arrive its hopefully ready and waiting?

How do you apply for Medicare card? In person, online, or part of it online then in person?

Hope to hear from someone with good advice soon

Cheers
Danny :)

Just wait until you've arrived in the country, and apply online. Their system will know you're not in the country, as they check the immigration database (or details from immigration get passed onto ATO). It doesn't take long for the TFN to be sent, usually within a couple of weeks - and you can work before you have it.

You'll be able to pick up a form in a Medicare office (or download it from their website). Just take the completed form into a Medicare office with the required documents - you can find their offices at a lot of shopping centres.
