I stayed in a place called Bonds Street Lodge in Kingsland near Mount Eden in Auckland for a few weeks. They offer fairly reasonable weekly rates, you get your own room with fridge/freezer/TV share a bathroom with 5 or 6 other rooms and share a really nice TV and kitchen area per floor.
It is nothing amazing, but I preferred it to staying in a hostel whilst I was job hunting, etc!
how long ago was that? what did you pay roughly?
Capitano – I was there from end of November 2010 to start of February 2011. I’ve just checked their website and they offer a weekly rate of $230 if you are going to stay there for three weeks or more.
As I say it is nothing amazing, but it is clean and friendly. There are three floors each floor has a really nice kitchen and living room with all the Sky channels and a nice patio/balcony area.
It is in a good location too, as I liked Kingsland, it is close to Mount Eden and literally a minutes walk from Eden Park Stadium!
I'd recommend staying in any of Auckland's leafy central suburbs such as Parnell, Ponsonby or Mount Eden. All of them have lots of restaurants, cafes and bars and are close to the city centre. Kingsland is also a good option as mentioned above, and Grey Lynn is an up and coming suburb which I believe has a couple of accommodation options. If you decide on the city centre, ACB and Base are 2 of the main hostels.
I know! Iv just sent off for my visa, so should get all the flights sorted in the next few weeks!
Are you flying from England or somewhere else?
Heya, yeah I'm going from Heathrow and stopping 2 nights in Singapore on the way out, just looking into the possibility of Fiji for a week or two whilst I'm in that direction! Getting really excited now about it all!
