I'm travelling to Australia around the middle of April. I know some people in Melbourne and Brisbane. They're just mates I met when I lived in England. Some are saying I should go here or there. The thing is while they are good people I wouldn't be overly close with them really. I'll meet them for a pint or two whenever but that would be it.
So I was wondering if anyone on here had any advice with regards to which city would be the best? The nicer city, standard of life, night life, to find work and reasonible accomodation etc etc? I'm a carpenter but I wouldn't mind what I worked at. Building or labouring, bar work, warehouse work etc. I'm bringing 5k Australian. I refuse to bring the life savings incase,,, I don't know, took long enough to earn it so I'm not gonna drop it all in Oz in a year and come home with nothing, you know.
Anyway, any advice would be appreciated. I haven't managed to word what I'm trying to say properly but I'm sure you'll get what I'm trying to say or ask anyway.
Melbourne and Brisbane are both amazing cities. Melbourne has great arty and crafty culture and lots of cafes - my favorite by far. However Brisbane is a beautiful city and has better (hotter) weather then Melbourne so it depends.
The work I did whilst In Australia on my first year WHV was call centre work therefore melbourne or sydney the best place to find that kind of work however you have a trade so this might not be as valid for you?
anyway hope that helps
Hey Jim, your from the same place as me Im arriving in Sydney on the 11th of April, I'm hoping to find some work in Sydney that will fund further travels how are you getting on so far ?
Cheers Chelle and Anna. Well I've decided on Melbourne. I've not left yet. Heading on the 26th, get there on the 28th. Going to stay in a mates place just outside the city and take it from there. I've no fixed plans other than that, might stay there a week or 6 months, god knows.
thats the best way to be though - dont make too many plans..travelling is all bout chilling and going with the flow! Hope you enjoy your trip for sure
