I'm heading in September solo too!

Thus far leaning towards agriculture in the hopes it will counter my girly-girl lifestyle...

My travel agent says there are usually lots of jobs specifically for temporary work holiday travelers so I'm not too worried. Also, I have a few friends who did promotional work, (ex: Red Bull) while there which they said is very fun. I hear Sydney is quite expensive in regards to the wage:cost of living ratio.

Good luck to you all!

Sorry to hear about your redundancy Nicky but what a great opportunity! Do you think you'll do the full year if you love it?

I had thought about farm work/fruit picking - though don't know if I could hack it! But the draw being able to apply for an additional year in Australia if you do your three months!

I heard the same about it being expensive though if you're earning a wage there it's not so bad apparently - promotions girl would be fun but as I'm 26 I might not qualify (too old!?)

Thanks elles i know its a shame iv worked there for 5 years and work in travel so always wanted to go an explore somehwere new! its worked out pretty well for me really!
I know the fruit picking sounds like hard work i know someone who did watermelons and said it was pretty hardcore! im not sure if ill stay for the year as i havent got a great budget an im leaving some debt behind that i need to sort so i think 6 months is just enough time for me!

I never thought of that ill be turning 26 when i get there im sure well be fine just be really bubbly an confident sure age wont be a problem!

If your coming over in september we should keep in touch and meet up if your nearby!

Im from oakworth in west yorkshire!

I'm in Shropshire at the moment and it's definitly time to move on!

I've been in two minds about booking flights - book them to Sydney now and get sorted when I arrive, or book them to where I think I will want to find work for a bit... Found some amazingly cheap flights, but then I realised they were two stops rather than the usual one and took an extra 15 hours!

Nicky you must be very clued up about the flights etc then if you've work in travel for so long.

We should definitly try and meet up! Would be nice to know someone when I get out there :)

Leaving in four weeks!! Wow!

Thailand is awesome, if you haven't been before you will have a great time! If you want any tips then ask :-)

Wow, that is very good value. I've been getting about £550 for London to Melbourne, skyscanner are the best ones I've found so far.

Not sure why the weather will be like in Sydney but I've heard Melbourne will be around 10c... I hate the cold hence why I'm considering starting in Cairns and following the sun so by the time I get to Melbourne it will be hot! Sad huh! Lol. I'm just thinking it may be easier getting work in Melbourne as I need work almost straight away... Decisions!!

Oh and watermelons? I was hoping for grapes... Hahaha!

I've bought ten month insurance before which was about £150 so I'm guessing Aus will be similar...although I should probably go for a better policy! Lol.

STA is like a travel company. Type "STA" into google. Where are you from Oscar? I don't think there's any best time to go, I think it just happens to suit some people. The reason I'm going then is because that's when my contract at work is up.

Skyscanner's been really helpful - think I'll pay a little more though for one stop, some were 40 hr long journeys!! I'll fly from either London or Manchester I think, only buying one way - money dependant I may decide to stop over somewhere though I have been toying with another country following... But that's way in the future!

Well my ex and I broke up over me going effectively so you're doing better than me Nicky! Would he meet you for a few weeks (holiday for him) in Australia? Skype and stuff also make it so easy to keep in touch now :)

Not sure about winter temps but you can Google averages? I can imagine its pretty mild in Sydney compared to what we're getting right now - snow in March!?
