Travel Forums General Talk "Explorersinsurance" - has anyone used??

Hi

I am travelling to SE Asia for a month then on to Australia for a year on a WHV.

I am leaning towards getting insurance from explorersinsurance.co.uk as it is the cheapest that I've found (Backpacker option - Worldwide exc. USA, Canada and the Caribbean)

I was just trying to find anyone that had gone with this company or who could tell me that it looks okay!! Unfortunately it's quite difficult to find any forum posts about it due to the quite generic name!

Any help very much appreciated!!

Clare

Rather than looking solely at the price of the insurance, also have a check who does the underwriting, basically the people that decide whether or not to pay out the really big payouts if something goes very wrong (medical etc). In my experience, the amounts for luggage theft etc are all less important, as insurance companies always find a way to minimize what they pay there anyway... plus it's to guard yourself against the huge expenses that you really want to have insurance.

Ah thank you.

It says "Underwritten by Travel Insurance Facilities and Insured by Union Reiseversicherung AG, UK Branch"

I don't know if they are reputable etc?
This is all very new to me.

Looks like the underwriter Union were founded in 2001 and have a turnover of around 45m EUR. Based on just a quick check they seem solid enough, but please don't hold me to that.

Usually you would never have to deal with the company that's all the way at the back of the insurance though it's good to know if something happens to the company that's selling the insurance (Travel Insurance Facilities). They seem to run a bunch of different sites.
