laurawickers has indicated that this thread is about Melbourne

Hi all

I am thinking of going travelling jan/ feb time 2014, I have never travelled before and will be travelling alone. Unfortunately none of my friends are in a position to jet off travelling.... would prefer to meet up with a few people in the same boat as me.

little bit nervous about it all, any tips?

thanks
Laura

Hello!

Tad confused because you said you would be travelling in jan/feb of this year..which is no longer possible!

Anyway, I currently live in Melbourne (and have been here for 6 years) so I'd be more than happy to help with planning etc. or be a friendly face when you get here, if I'm here since I'm not sure when you are travelling. I've also lived in Gippsland and I've travelled a little bit around the country if you're planning on seeing other places.

You'll arrive at Melbourne Tullamarine airport, there are buses from here into the city. Once in the city there are plenty of trains, buses, and trams which make travelling around super easy. Here is out public transport website:

http://jp.ptv.vic.gov.au/ptv/XSLT_TRIP_REQUEST2?language=en

And here's a good website outlining things you might want to see or do and what things are on:

http://www.thatsmelbourne.com.au/Pages/Home.aspx

I'm not a tourist here so it's a bit harder to suggest touristy things to do, but maybe check out the Melbourne Zoo, or the Eureka Observation Deck, Queen Victoria Markets, Federation Square and Flinders Street Station, Botanical Gardens, Melbourne Museum, Cruise along the Yarra, Crown Casino, there's plenty to do and see, depending on what you're interested in. Most of all, we have great restaurants and great nightlife!

Feel free to ask me specifics or general stuff if you think I can help at all!

Megan
