I've read a lot of posts about this topic but still need more help. As part of RTW I want to do part of the west coast of america - sf, la, lv, grand c. (maybe other places - any suggestions?)
from what people have said the best way to do it seems to be by car, but am concerned about the price and age limits. should i be worried?
other options seem to be the greyhound or train but i am worried about missing things out and being stuck with someone elses timetable
does anyone have any suggestions as to what i could do?
A lot of the car rental companies have an age limit...25 to rent, and a credit card. There are a few that still rent to 21 yr.olds, but that is shrinking.
Even with that, it is still the best way to go to see these places. Our public transportation system in the US leaves much to be desired.
Thanks for your help
Having looked into it am more tempted to hire a car but wonder how much pertrol/gas will cost to do a full circuit?
Also can anyone recommend anywhere to go on the la, lv, sf circuit and where to stay - preferably cheap!
Another place you actually don't want to miss on that circuit is San Diego, and it depends on if you start more north, what about portland, OR or seattle, WA? For some culture? Deffinately go to Long Beach, a great, great beach, beautiful in Cali, near L.A. In San Diego, hit up Sea World. It is better than a whale watching tour off of the West Coast . What about Universal Studios, if you're down with that.
Maybe try Pheonix in AZ, or even go over to Texas? With a car you can go quite far in USA so get a rent-a-car if you can manage that. You will thank yourself for it, too.
