We will be doing the Mongol rally in 2014, and wish to drive through Iran, there will be 3 of us.
Myself, Tamir who is Mongolian and a female.
Can someone tell me if this is ok?
What are the pitfalls?
What do the Iranians feel about ladies in cars with men which they are not related to.
Some advice would be very useful at this stage, as we are currently planning the route, and
do not wish to cause any hassle that could be avoided.

We are traveling through:

United Kingdom
France
Belguim
Germany
Czech Republic
Austria
Slovenia
Croatia
Serbia
Romania
Bulgaria
Turkey
Georgia
Armenia
Azerbaijan

Iran
Turkmenistan
Uzbekistan
Tajikistan
Kyrgyzstan
Kazakhstan
Russia
Mongolia

The countries that are in italics we may not visit.

Thanks

I'd recon that you'd have the most troubles in rural areas and important religious centers, like Mashhad... That said, Iranians usually have a fair understanding of foreigners acting "differently"...

Consider changing driver between rural towns instead of in them, so you will do the driving when you're arriving and leaving the cities but the girls are driving in between stops...

If you do get questions about relations, I'd usually just make up (read: plan ahead) a small white lie.. If two of you look the slightest alike (being Caucasian should be enough) claim a family relation - at least cousins..
Then get some rings that looks like wedding rings and claim that two of you are married.. That way are you just a married couple and their cousin... It will come in handy in all the islamic countries you are visiting - especially when book accommodation..
