I need to be pointed in the right direction here. there is so much more to planning your gap year than i thought! how do i go about setting up a bank account tax number and all other work related stuff? ive come across a website that advised me for Visa First to do it n i can sit back n not worry about setting anything up when i get there or should i just set up when i get there?
Any help here wud be much appreciated as im sort of worrying!
There really isn't that much to worry about Paul. I suggest you check this thread.
In short, apply for your visa yourself, apply for your visa online when you get there, pop into a bank/banks when you get there and get yourself a bank account.
It really is very simple, I promise you.
Cheers for the reply Steve. I think its just the fact ill be going alone n getting abit daunted by the prospect of moving across the world ha! so, u advise me to just sort it all by my self? this company r gonna charge me an excessive amount of money before i leave which i dont really want to do, as long as its easy i shud be ok?
I understand the worry, I had the same fears myself before I went to Oz.
Have you looked at the Australian Immigration website? Have a look there and apply for your working visa online, it only takes a few minutes and I got my visa back about five minutes after I submitted the form.
Sorry just realised a typo in my previous message, I meant apply for your tax number online when you get there, not your visa. And then when you get to Oz there are so many banks around they will easily be able to help you set up your account.
Don’t forget to go to New Zealand too, a country I preferred to Australia (as did many travellers I met!).
yer its daunting especially when ya go by yourself!
erm i havent steve but ill have a flick through n see what information is there! i shudnt have a problem getting a visa!
is there a website i can apply for my tax number online?
Yer ive thought about popping to NZ i dont kno whether to go before or after OZ, im thinking before?
Cheers Steve the info u have gave me is great n helping me alot!
im wondering if £5000 will be enough to go travelling for 6 months +?
hey paul when are you thinking of travelling ?
Australia is VERY expensive. I was spending £1k a month and that was being very, very frugal, ie not going out drinking much, making my own dinners and lunches every day, not going on to many excursions. I would budget at least £1k a month.
