Who would volunteer for this? And, why?

HOW ABOUT A CHIP FOR YOUR BEER?

A Scottish nightclub is to become the first in Britain to offer customers cash-free drinking by having a microchip implanted in their arms.

The tiny "digital wallet" would allow entry into the club and allow revelers to buy drinks on account.

The VeriChip is inserted by a medical expert and then scanned for it's unique ID number as the bearer enters the bar.

Owner of Glasgow's Bar Soba, Brad Stevens, said "By the time you walk through the door, your favorite drink is waiting for you."

(Brewer's Bulletin article)

Guess this is better than a trip to the proctologist... What if you decide to try a new drink (...your favorite drink will be waiting for you...)?

A lot of people in the UK do a pub crawl at weekends and generally go to the same bars. So if they all start doing it, you'll be chipped up to the eyeballs. I suppose mugging would become a bit more hi-tech as well, involving scalpels and other surgical instruments.

Mr Isa here...

And I always thought it was safer drinking in the UK than here in Free-from-Terror Land.
I can see it now...
Mugger: "Give me all your money!"
Victim: "Sorry lad, no money here - just a chip (on my shoulder)."
Mugger: "Shite!!!!!!!!!!!!"

What if you can only load up the chip with an amount of 6 pounds 66 pence?

Mr Isa here...

Shouldn't that buy you a full night's drunk in Oz? Or, 55 gallon can of Fosters?

Mrs Isa here...

How much is that in REAL money????

i'd be so broke if i had one of those chips, it would be too easy to order drinks, and then if i changed my mind on what to drink, i'd have to drink my usual and order the new one, drunk in no time at all
