Sure, what do you want to know about exactly? I was based in Auckland but I travelled around the country extensively; I left a year or so ago. I'm sure you will love it - I miss it a lot and talking about it is making me want to go back!

Everything! :P I just really want to find somewhere we love! I thought the best thing to do was travel all around but my bf is pretty keen to stay in one place for the most part. I've read a lot about Rotorua, it's such a tough decision!!

How much money should we bring? I think its NZ$5,000 each that's required, but could we go with less and live comfortably? I want to asap

It depends what you want from a place really - personally I could only ever live in Auckland because I found everywhere else too small, but it isn't everyone's favourite place. I loved the range of cuisines in Auckland and the restaurants are one of the things I miss most; I'm a bit of a foodie though so that's important to me. You could base yourself in a few places for a few months each and explore that region at the same time. Have you thought of Queenstown? That's popular with backpackers and it's beautiful. Rotorua is a must-see, but I'm not sure what it would be like to live in. Lots of people like Wellington more than Auckland, but while it was nice for a weekend I didn't think it was that great.

If $5000 is the minimum then I would take at least that - you're unlikely to get asked at immigration but it's not worth the risk. If you take a while to find a job and also need to pay a month's rent up front on somewhere then it's not going to last that long.

What I want is sun, beach, work and a decent nightlife! That's probably asking a lot from one city, but that's the ideal. I suppose wherever we choose has to be better than Ireland! Did you prefer it to the UK?

I think Auckland would be the best place to base yourself then. It has lovely beaches, the best climate, ok nightlife and the most jobs. Wellington may have better nightlife but the climate isn't nearly as nice. How long are you planning to stay away for? It sounds like you are a bit fed up of Ireland?

The lifestyle is definitely better than the UK - I'm so fed up of the weather here. There are pros and cons of both countries though which is why I'm having a hard time deciding where I want to be! I've got a permanent visa for NZ which I'm so glad about as it always gives me the option to go back.

I don't know whywe didn't really consider that lol. To be honest I have no idea how long I'm leaving for, the visa is upto 23 months, so just depends on how we feel when we're there.

I think no matter how long I was away I'd always come home to settle down. I just want to escape the depression! All you ever hear is about the recession.

I'd imagine you have friends in both countries? it's a hard decision.

I agree, it's hard to get away from the negativity isn't it? Yeah I have friends in both places so it's hard.

I can imagine! At least you have the option though, would be worse if you knew you couldn't go back.

I have one last question ar there any beaches near Auckland city?

Yes, Mission Bay is probably the nicest one in the city and there is one in Point Chevalier in the city but not sure this is as nice. There are lots of great beaches on the west coast which is around 30 mins drive, and over on the North Shore which is 10 -15 mins from the city centre. Also have a look at this website about beaches in Auckland.

Have a fantastic time and let me know if you need any more info.
