Me and a friend are off to Australia in Sept for 5 months, we are renting a campervan from http://www.wickedcampers.com.au/
but have absolutely no idea on where to go at what time??!?
Anyone have any ideas on an itinery???
We are both about 23 and looking for good partying opportunities but also some really cool sight seeing.....
...i guess i just wanted to know how far we can get in 5 months and how much we can fit in??
Wow, big question.
If partying is your main objective, drive up, down (or both) the East coast. Lonely Planet do a good guide for that well-travelled route.
A friend of mine travelled right across from West to East in a camper van, in 5 months! So you can do pretty much what you like.
Of course, the partying would be limited, but the sights would be fantastic, and you'd meet a few interesting characters!
Places like Byron Bay and Surfers Paradise are not to be missed on the east coast. The rest depends on what you want to do. There will be plenty of surfing, diving, snorkelling opportunities.
Yeah i know mate sorry it's a bit of a random question
Do you think we could either go from
Perth - Sydney (about 2 months) spend next 3 months around the east coast or vice versa
Darwin - Sydney then the east coast
Do you think either is too ambitious or not enough?
If you travel from perth to sydney make sure you come through Victoria and travel on the great ocean road, this will give you fantastic views and great beaches along the way. There are plenty of caravan and camping sites along the way and you shouldn't have too much trouble finding somewhere to stay or party anywhere along the coast. You may want to think about maybe taking three months to do the trip from Perth to Sydney if you are following the coast as it is a long way. Make sure you try and do the centre of Australia as well, there are some great websites if you try the tourism guides for each state they are pretty helpful and may assist you in your planning or you could try www.caravanning-oz.com. Hope this help in some way.
I thought i might have to take 3 months getting to sydney from either Darwin or Perth but that's ok still leaves 2 months to see the east coast
Yeah my main reason for doing wanting to go from Perth is to travel the great ocean road, Victoria etc.
Now just got to decide whether it's better to do that or start from Darwin and see Ulary, Alice Springs etc.
Great help thanks
i forgot to mention that while you in victoria you might like to take a couple of weeks and go over to tasmania. There are fantastic camping facilities all the way round. It is truly worth the trip and it is pretty easy to get over there on the Abel Tasman ferry service. Hope you have a great trip.
Maby roll the dice to decide which states and in which order.
if you want to party then i think the east coast is probably ur best bet. the drive across australia (perth to sydney) is very scenic but most of the time you are isolated, with long distances between towns that are generally fairly small. not exactly party capital of the world!!
good luck with deciding and i'm sure you'll have a great time whatever you decide to do,
