Hi :)

I'm basically just in the very early planning stage of a one year working trip to Australia. I would hope to fly out late December 2013 or early Jan 2014. I'm from Ireland and I've never done travelling like this before and as I'm doing it on my own I'm quite apprehensive so I'm looking for someone in the same boat as me- planning to go to Aus but has nothing planned yet and is open to any new ideas and meeting as many new people as possible!

The plan at the minute would be to get a visa from either usit or go4less for a year (working). Don't know where is the best place to fly to get a job so open to ideas there and also plans regarding travelling/ sightseeing/ beering :)

Anyone who has any advice or is in the same boat please help :)

Thanks :)

You may find it cheaper to pick up a flight to England, then fly to Australia (maybe Ryanair).

Australia is expensive and especially around the New Year period. Going say the third week in January, or being well away from Sydney over Xmas and New Year will save you a lot of money.

What kind of job? Many, many Brits and others go there that time of year so jobs can be in short supply if you leave it late.

Don't expect to earn lots of money there to finance your stay in Australia. As I said, it's expensive and many jobs like fruit picking will just keep you ticking over financially. You will of course need a good sum of money in some form or other to start you off.

Make sure you get a work visa. People who get a tourist visa and plan to work sometimes get sent home even before setting foot in Australia (Immigration miss little).

Australia is a BIG place. If you google:

australia jobs for travellers

That will give you some idea of what to look for and where to go. Otherwise you could end up arriving in one place and then finding a job a thousand miles away.

Hey guys!
I'm flying to Sydney on the 17th January 2014, will arrive on the 19th Jan. I've booked with a company called "ultimate oz" for the first 10 nights but after that I have no plans. I'm hoping to travel up the east coast at some point and get jobs along the way to help with money.
I'm pretty much open to ideas & as I'm travelling solo, would be good to meet people in the same boat :)

Heather :)
