Hello Helen! Welcome to TP!
You will find loads of information here, and if you can't find it, just ask! :)

Only one way to find out - do it. If you aren't sure backpacking is for you, pick only one of your dream desintations and do a few weeks or a month there. That'll give you a flavour of what backpacking is like.

Hi Helen!

Welcome to TP and good luck with your decision-making. As both Joz and Greg have said, there's lots of info here, and you won't know until you try it!

See ya around the forums!

Hello Helen! Backpacking is for everyone ready for a challenge but most of all it changes the way you view traveling for the rest of your life. I say, GO FOR IT GIRL!! If you need help about South America send me a PM. I was born and raised in Peru, a close cousin lives in Rio, my brother-in-law is from Chile and my mom just got back from Argentina...I should be pretty helpful. Good luck!

Hi Helen,

Welcome. You should go for it. You will have a great time wherever you decide to go and you will be glad you done it for the rest of your life.

Excuse the cheesiness but you're never alone when you're travelling.
