I'm new to the site so hi!!
Basically I've been working since I left school and next year I have the opportunity to take a career break so I retain my employment for when I return which had always been a worry for me when considering travelling.
I've been looking at them flight packages and seen one that includes the USA (over land from New York to Los Angeles), to Costa Rica, then to South America (over land from Lima to Rio) and finally to Portugal and I think from there I would like to make my own way home.
I would ideally like to start this trip at the beginning of May 14 and be in Brazil for some of the world cup and see a match or 2. I think 4 or 5 months in total would be cool.
So, my questions for you well travelled gurus!! How have people found travelling on their own for long periods of time? How much money do you think one would need (excluding flight costs) and what currency or format is best to take? Is my itinerary realistic? How easy is public transport through the USA and South America? (I speak Spanish if that helps?) Anyone have any recommendations or experience of similar trips??
Thanks in advance everyone!! I know you must get loads of these questions!!!
