Female ... 24 years old .... Travelling to Oz for a year to start a new adventure

Is anyone else doing it, what's ya biggest worries? I'm quite sociable and have a tight knit group of friends so just hope I adapt and meet new ones. I've lived on my own so can deal with my own company but I imagine seeing the sights and not sharing that experience with someone might be about pants.

Anyway just thought I'd would air my thoughts as unless you know someone who is doing it by themselves it's quite hard for people to relate to me. Plus I get the O your going on your own faces when people ask who I'm going with which makes me slightly more apprehensive.

Anyway bye for now

I really get the "O your going with your kids" face all the time. My husband travels and I am not just going to sit put! Last summer I took the kids to Thailand and Malaysia!

I am planning to head to Australia in October also on my own (not booked as yet). Yeah it's bit scary what if it all goes wrong?! How long you going for? Are you going to New Zealand and Fiji?

Yea I'm heading out on the 5th of June to Sydney. I'm going on my own and everyone has said the same to me. I have the same problem as I have little close group of friends here, but I'm one for not being in my own company as much, that's prob my most worrying thing.

Hey Guys
How have you booked to travel, have you gone through an STA, or have you just booked a flight and a hostle/place to stay?
I thought an STA would be the way to go, but I'm not sure if they charge over the odds for not alot!
Also what's the best place to apply for 12 month WHV?
I'm keen to get it all sorted ASAP and get away from here as quick as possible

I would probably go with what the expert advised you in the other thread.....

That should take you to the online application form. You might as well go to STA as they will try and find you the cheapest flight, or you can find your own flights and tell them how much you were quoted to get a price match. I booked mine online via STA's website. You can book a hostel through a ton of different sites (simple google search) as I found they were cheaper and had more options than STA had to offer.

Do you mean doing an STA starter package, simcard, tax number, bank account etc?? I really don't think there is much point as you will save yourself money doing it yourself. If you've had to do all these in the UK before it shouldn't be too hard!

Im travelling to cairns at the end of may/ start of june by myself, so am thinking about doing the ultimate oz two day package, have you looked at that?
Ive stayed in hostels a few times before and it is easy to meet people normally, so i wouldnt worry too much!

Hey, I wouldn't worry about meeting people, it all comes easily. I think I'll be looking at heading to cairns end of June/July to do my 3 months 2nd year visa work assuming a I can get the job I want. Are you in Australia now or heading straight to cairns? Get me up on Facebook as its easier to chat

Thanks everyone, makes me feel loads better!!

Wow hope if I have kids I can take them all over the world ... Sounds amazing. I did my visa through the above link, looked at doing it through a company but they seem to add on all these extras for doing it for you.

I fly to cairns end of July from London... My backpack has arrived today and its all very excited
