I am planning to travel to England, Ireland, Scotland, France, Italy, Germany, Austria, Swizerland and the Netherlands for 2 or 3 weeks in 2006. My job will only allow me to be gone that long between Dec 20 - Mar 10. Does anyone have any suggestions on when during this time would be best to travel?

That's a lot of countries for two or three weeks! That's about a day or a day and a half in each COUNTRY - not to mention travel time. You might want to consider narrowing down to the places you want to see most, else all you'll remember is what the inside of European trains look like...

But, to answer your question... um.. I actually don't know! I'd say March, though, as things will probably be warming up in the more southern countries. Remember that the Netherlands and Italy will have greatly varying temperatures at the same time of year.

Don't I sound like a finger-shaking mother!

Heather,

Weather wise in the UK, there is not much difference when you come, it will be cold!!!!! Around christmas and new year things tend to be closed for a few days so if you are here for 2 to 3 weeks you might have a few frustrating days where you can't do much, plus airfares are that much dearer. Late february, early march might be better.
