Just to scare everyone, here is a recently published list of the five most murderous European cities (killings per year).

1. London 210
2. Ankara 110
3. Berlin 68
4. Vilnius 51
5. Madrid 46

Not sure of the point of this thread, but i suppose you have to know the good and bad about places.

What, no Belfast? Or maybe the statistic's not based on percentages...

And Vilnius - my Grandmother's from Lithuania and she's the sweetest woman! Although she does have her stubborn side. Maybe I'll sit at the other end of the table at Easter.

The question should be...is the US as safe as you think. Our free-from-terror land as Mr. Isa likes to call it isnt so free from terror after all. I hope this works, I am trying an URL, ck this out Murder Statistics in the US by State in 2003

Just as a footnote...Florida alone had 924 murders in 2003!!!! DO NOT COME HERE!!!!

The same magazine had this. Top 10 Murder Nations (killings per 100,000)

1. Colombia 63
2. S. Africa 51
3. Jamaica 32
4. Venezuala 32
5. Russia 19
6. Mexico 13
7. Lithuania 10
8. Estonia 10
9. Latvia 10
10 Belarus 9

The US was 24th with 4 per 100,000 and the UK was 46th with 1 per 100,000.

Mr I here... (Noticably, we're shortening our names to Mr. and Mrs I for convenience.)

Obviously, the rest of the world is just not trying hard enough. We have more murders in Chicago than most any place else though I think Detroit is the murder capitol of the US.

I don't think per 100,000 is a good way to stats murders...

I agree there Brendan, and i'm sure countries like Somalia don't really know what the ratio is. I read something the other week about the most dangerous places to live on earth and the countries below with the highest (recorded) murder rates weren't in the top 3. Iraq, Somalia and Afghanistan were, thought i think people in Darfur, etc might disagree.

Not sure how accurate that these statistics tend to be anyway.
