You will be fine, like I said would be best to go steady until you get yourself sorted with a job or something. There’s potential to earn a lot more than that, I have friends in Sydney that were earning $1200 per week!

Hi James

I'm not planning on being in Oz until next year with the most part spent in Sydney - what sort of work are your friends doing that pay this well? i'd love to know so I can look into it maybe.

Thanks
Lauren

That is roughly what I was earning when I worked in Sydney, however I was 30 years old and had ten years experience in the field I was working in (PR/website related), which made it a lot easier for me to get a decent paying job when I went over.

A lot does depend on your age and experience. If you are 21 and fresh out of Uni you wouldn't expect to earn as much as someone who is 30 and has a good CV.

Thanks both of you, more info would be great.

James i'm also from Surrey!

Steve, i'm 28 and would be turning 30 when I plan to be in Sydney so hopefully from what you have said I should find things on the easier side to find employment...?

I have heard though that the Australian job market is different to that in the UK and we need a different type of CV. Does anyone know what type of CV is needed?

Thanks
Lauren

Hi Lauren,

You're right in saying that you will likely need an alternative CV, you may have no issues with a UK CV but it may working your favour to search on google for an australian resume template.

Also from my experience (I've done 8 trips downunder and its got gradually more expensive each time!) take literally as much money as possible, the money disappears out there crazy quickly, even if you're not planning to drink your money away!

Hope this helps. If you have any questions lets me know.

Kate
