Hi Brian, I am not going to NY in April (just came back actually) but I do go to NY very often, probably 4-5 times a year. If you need any help on where to go, what to see or what to do, let me know. I used to live in NY so I know all the hideouts, best bars, best restaurants, etc etc and of course the things you shouldnt miss. Let me know!

PS I am touring NY with my cousins at the end of May and I sort of have a plan so I can show them everything in three days.

hi areinstein,

Would you be able to advise on THE one or two things that I really shouldn't miss? I've read all sorts of guide books and searched the internet for top New York attractions, but still am not quite sure of what to do with so little time and so much to do.

What restaurant is the best value for money? I like Italian, American and Chinese food.

Some of my secret wishes:
1. Are the top musicals at broadway usually sold out? I'm thinking of visiting the TKTS booth to get tickets for say, mama mia or the lion king, but I'm afraid I can't get them.

2. I am a basketball fan and would love to watch a knicks game. Can I get cheap tickets on the day of the game itself? I am talking about the range of 10-20 bucks.

Hi Brian,

I got tickets to a knicks game last year for roughly 25 on the day... not sure how much cheaper you can get them, the cheap ones sell out pretty quick and especially when the opponent is worth noting.

I am in NY the end of may actually, bummer as I like basketball and somehow doubt the knicks will still be playing then...

Since you will be visiting on weekdays, you will be able to get tickets at the window. Check out www.broadway.com for more information.

The tickets are available for the Monday's and Wednesday's game, now. So I would suggest get the tickets in advance if you are certain that you wanna go to the game. Also consider the additional $5 (approx) convinience charges that most stadiums will charge. So the total prices will be $15 or $25 respectively.

Cheers,
Yuvraj

Hi Sam I Am,
Where do you buy the tickets? Can you get them outside MSG just b4 the game?

Today I checked on tickmaster that the $10 and $35 tickets for the knicks-pacers game on Apr 5th is already sold out.

Hi Brian,

I got my ticket at the MCG ticket center which is below/outside the MCG. I got them on the day (morning) itself for standard pricing but it was sold out by evening....

Hey Brian, sorry it took me so long to reply. I dont subscribe to threads anymore so I have to "look" for the replies thread by thread.
Anyway, check out this thread
I dont think you will miss much in the very few days you are there. If you skip the Metropolitan Museum of Art (which can take a full day), you should be able to see all of it in two days.

I would start on 59th Street and Broadway and work my way down (anything above the 50s is mostly residential). Go to 42nd Street and ck out Times Square and the NY Public Library, then head to the east down to 34th Street to ck out the Empire State Building. Take the train to 14th Street and head down on Broadway to the Village, Soho, and Chinatown. Then take the train to City Hall and walk on the Brooklyn Bridge. Beautiful view of Manhattan...

You can go down to the South Street Seaport and just watch the river and the people. I go there every time I go to NY, I love it cause it is a very peaceful view and place to me. Then go to Battery Park and try to get a ride to the Statute of Liberty, that may take a full morning. To be honest, I could do all of this in one full day, I know it sounds crazy but I have done it.

Manhattan isnt that big and the city never sleeps. As far as eating, NYC is full of pizza parlors, lots of italian eateries, cheap cheap. I never spend top dollar on food there unless I am going to a specific fancy resturant with my friends. You can even do chinese take out.

Check out the thread I posted before about the tickets in Broadway. Dont go to 42nd street to get them, you will waste your hold day there. Go to the one in South Street Seaport. It is a little bit hidden but you will find it. I recommend you see Moving Out and yes, the ticket you buy that day is available for that day or the next at the most. When I've gone there, I buy the txs that day for the same day show. I cant remember if they are good for the following day.

I think you got enough info about the NY Knicks games so I will leave it at that.

Anyway, let me know if you need any more help. I'll try not to take too long next time!
