I've recently bought a flight to India that's leaving in little over a week. I was't planning on going so I've had no time to research routes/sights etc. I'm flying to Delhi and I have 2 months to travel. Could anyone suggest places to go (apart from Taj Mahal), best transport, sights to see, any festivals etc.
All help is seriously appreciated.
Much of India is super hot right now. You're probably best off heading to the mountains up north (like Dharamsala /Manali, and maybe Leh) and/ or maybe Darjeeling and Sikkim. Check the monsoon movements - it will certainly be hitting the west coast around now and intense heat precedes it. Train is the best way to move around - I'd recommend to pay slightly extra for AC class.
If you have a 2 months time for leisure then i will surely suggest you to come and visit the God's Own Country, Kerala. Monsoon/Rainy days is the best time for getting the Ayurveda life. Here you can enjoy the days with beauty of nature with the some health tips. One more thing as monsoon season is considers as off season for Kerala there is a chance to get cheap accommodation too.
Enjoy the holidays with sound of rain.
That's really great that you are coming to India. India is a beautiful country and you going to have fun here. But as you know it is summer time going so I will suggest you to visit hill stations more like Shimla, Monsoorie, Dehradoon, Kashmir(called heaven on earth), Nainital, Goa, Kerala, Ooty, darjeeling. I hope I did not forget the most popular hill stations of India.
But if you want to explore other places of India then obviously Delhi, Agra, Rajasthan are best place to see the Forts and palaces in India. Rajasthan is the best place to explore rich Indian culture.
Hey there is a festival going in Ooty "Flower show festival" you can have fun there with natural beauty.
Hope this information is gonna help you in your vacations
Thank you all very much for your help!
I'm really excited now!
In India you can visit places like Manali, Dharamshala, Ooty, Kerala, Goa, Wildlife National Parks. There are so many places for spiritual retreats in India, one of them is Haridwar most people go there to wash their sins in the holy river Ganga, Char Dham i.e. Gangotri (origin of Ganga) , Yamunotri (origin of Yamuna), Badrinath (Lord Vishnu Temple), Kedarnath (Lord Shiva Travel).
You can also spend time doing so many adventurous activities in India like river rafting in Rishikesh, Trekking in Leh & Ladakh, bungee jumping and Paragliding in Manali, exploring the historical monuments,River tour in India is available in Kerala, Backwaters of Kerala are the main attraction of this wonderful destination whose beauty is praised all over the world by tourists who have visited this lovely state of India during his Vacation in India.
Hope this information will help you.

I'd go to Kashmir or Goa. India is amazing, I envy you I wish I could go there again. But no India for me this year ((( Well...there's always next year ))))
Yeah, India is quite beautiful country and you have so many places to visit in India except "Taj Mahal". I would like to suggest you few popular tourist destinations where you must visit to make your trip memorable.
Kashmir(Called heaven on earth)
Leh - Ladakh
These are few popular tourist destinations where you can visit and I am pretty sure, you will love to stay in these places.
I do not have any idea about any festival but I think train is good mode of transportation to these places.
But for Leh I would suggest you to have flight.
I would certainly advice you not to go to north as of now, the situation over there isn't pretty good. Floods all around, even Nainital, Masoori, dehradoon, all the regions are facing high rainfall, landslide.. Otherwise you may visit, Kerala, Goa... Avoid Leh ladaakh till the situation gets under control...
I would suggest you to visit Ooty, Kerala, Goa, Andaman & Nicobar etc there are many places in south to visit till the time things get better in North.
