Hmm, I am actually nearing that 1000 post mark, will I make it before I head off for a short Easter break or not??? Place your bets now

You will make it, but FYI, we arent sending chocolates to Norway You have better chocolates in Europe anyway...

Well, that depends slightly on when I head off, doesn't it :) But I think it's safe to say the way it's going now that I will make it indeed. And it's tomorrow morning that I'm heading off by the way. Which is actually late for Norwegian terms. Oslo is empty right now since half the people have headed off towards their winter cabins for some skiing. Most Norwegians get Thurs/Fri/Mon off and half of Wednesday too (although I am still trying to work out if they just take that or whether it's some kind of official thing), it's so funny. Norwegians really like their holidays and Easter is one of the biggest ones!

Another cultural anecdote; a lot of Norwegian businesses (and of course all public agencies etc.) still offer something called 'summertime' which lasts 4 months and basically means staff gets to take off at 4 instead of 5, so work 5 hours less a week. Not quite as nice when you're an employer though but one of those wonderful things about a country that is so socialistic...never ceases to amaze me !

ps. they do have some wonderful chocolate here in Norway but not much of the good Swiss/Belgian kind that we used to have in the store I worked in (yes, most of it ended up in my stomach )

One or two more posts and you're there Sam! If you can't do that in the next few hours - for shame!!!

Cupcake wasn't trying to wean off TP - she was napping so she can make the big leap while we're sleeping.

Maybe we can send Sam some virtual chocolates...

See, he's adding posts just to hit 1000!!!

I am definitely living in the wrong part of the world You and Dave both have a tooon of time off. All that "free" time is a great thing for travelers like us...I end up having to rush through my vacations but still I try to make the best of it.

Well, I didn't say I have that much time off :) Being self employed basically means you fall outside any rules there are. On the other hand, you are your own boss so if you want to just take off, that should be ok too

A friend of mine in the Netherlands actually has 8 weeks off every year!!! Amazing stuff. He works for an insurance company, don't know if that has anything to do with it but we're continuously giving him lip about it

Actually one question I've never asked to any European with the luxury of taking few weeks (or months) off a year is whether that time off is fully compensated. Is it?
