I think im probably about at the same stage as you regarding flights and hostels. I'm heading out in August but considering doing asia for a month or so first due to not having any set plans in Australia yet. Do you know if the second year WHV work is easy to find or not?

Cheers,

Jamie

Hey Morgan

I booked the work and play package with sta. Which means when I arrive my tax file number, sim card, pick up from the airport and hostel booked is all sorted for me.

I was a bit lucky for the bank account. I won one of those international accounts when I went to a sta world tour talk. Also I dont know of you know but australian bank account cost $10 a month to use.

I've booked into the Woodduck hostel for 3 days, it's too blocks away from the great barrier reef!

Hi,

Yeah, may be a bit cheaper to do the stuff by yourself but I like the idea of meeting a whole group of people and doing the whole first week fun stuff too!

I'm moving to Australia mid June to do my work placement for my university course.
I will be travelling alone but staying with my uncle until I find alternative Accomodation/funding to rent!!

Any time any ones intending to be in Melbourne ?

I'm hoping to do some travelling through Australia and Asia around this time to travel back to the UK in 2014 before going on to my fourth year back at Uni!

Hello, I've just sorted out my working visa, I am also hoping to go around october time, would one of you mind filling me in on how to extend your working visa? is there a difference between the 6 month whv or the year whv?

any valid info would be much appreciated!

I don't know anything about a six month WHV.

What I do know, is that there's two visas generally referred to as WHVs:
There's the "417" Working Holiday Visa for people from most of the EU, Canada, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, which is valid for 12 months, and allows for a second 12 month period (either immediately after the end of the first one, or years later) assuming you did 3 months of specified work during the first 12 months.
And there's the "462" Work and Holiday Visa, for people from the USA, several South American countries, and some more SE Asian countries. This also is valid for 12 months, but doesn't have an option for a second year.

Did you get one of these two visas, or something else entirely? Where did you get it from?

I'm a UK citizen so got the UK whv.
The terms are twelve months of citizenship but you are not allowed to work for more than six months at any one company without a written permission from the secretary or something such as that? It can then be extended for a further twelve months after that either immediately or reapplied for, the country can be left and re-entered as many times as you like during the visa but it doesn't pause whilst out of the country (12 months from the date you first enter the country)

Hope that helps!

Hey Peak1985,

UltimateOz does look good! Have you decided when you're going? They can sort out the visa for you as well right?
