Best way to drive across the U.S?

Travel Forums North America Best way to drive across the U.S?

Hey guys,

Me and three mates are hoping to drive across the States for 9 weeks next year, starting in Seattle, finishing in Chicago, it's about 6500 miles, three of us want to do the driving, and we're all under the age of 25!

We know its going to be pricey, but anyone know the best places to get a quote for this kind of trip?

Many thanks, Alex :)

Seattle to Chicago is only a little over 2,000 miles so you have LOTS of time for loads of interesting side trips.

Something to consider... unless you're buying a vehicle consider doing a big looping circle and return to the west coast, otherwise the drop-off charges for a rental will be expensive.

Have fun and good luck with your research.

Cheers,
Terry

See vegasmike6's reply to this thread's question--then go check some of his other posts.

Mike makes the best suggestion for purchasing a car for a short trip and then selling it back at the end. You would need to start your trip in Las Vegas, though, if you plan to have him assist you. However, I can't imagine that being a problem for a group of guys around 21-24 years old.

The price will depend on if you rent a car or buy one like mike suggested in that other thread. (I think you have to be 25 to rent a car though)

The next big cost is fuel.

Do you have any places you'd like to see along the way?
