3 days in Mexico, CA or Northern SA - where would you go?

Travel Forums Central/South America & The Caribbean 3 days in Mexico, CA or Northern SA - where would you go?

Hello -

My cousin and I have a free round trip ticket from NYC to anywhere in the Americas - only catch is that it has to be a short thurs-sun, mon-fri trip. Have already been to Guatemala (except Tikal), Honduras (Roatan/Utila), Colombia (Bogota), Costa Rica & Panama. Can't let a free ticket go to waste and since we only have three days can anyone recommend one place for a short trip? We love to drink/party, enjoy history/culture and would be great to be in a cheaper place than NYC. We are prudent travelers and while we understand that crime happens everywhere (including NYC!) we would like to be in a relatively safe environment.

We are currently debating between Grenada (Nicaragua), Medellin and Cartagena. Open to other suggestions in Mexico (have been to Cancun), Ecuador, Suriname, Guayana etc. Anywhere we can fly to and have a good time. We have ruled out Venezuela as a potential destination for this trip.

If you only had 3 days and could fly anywhere you want, where would you go?!?

Thanks in advance,

You went to Guatemala and did not see Tikal? Tsk, tsk.

I would have said Cuba but can you get there from the US these days?

I had a day in Cartagena many years ago and quite liked it.

Your real problem is that you only have 3 days and you don't want to spend much of that flying somewhere and back.

I know it's a bit of a waste of such a ticket but have you considered Washington DC?

Lots to see and do there and nearby, and a good nightlife there.

Hi Cyberia -

Thanks for the reply. We live in NYC so have been to DC quite a few times. Will in fact be driving down again in a few weeks.

We discovered that Dublin too is a nice short flight away from NYC so will most probably heading to Europe for a long weekend.

If anyone has thoughts on above destinations in CA/SA it would still be great to hear. I doubt we will stay put in NY for too long even after Dublin!
