It all depends on what kind of experience you want. If you want to go to a city I would suggest New Orleans, Paris, or Sydney. However if you're looking for a more outdoorsy type of vacation I would suggest the Australian Outback, Belize, or Peru. It really depends on what kind of experience you want to get out of traveling. In my Around the World adventure coming up I've added a little bit of both the cities and the more rugged adventures.
Whatever you pick just make sure you have fun while there.

Happy Traveling!!

Everyone's travel requirements are different and what would make your travel experience could be totally different to someone elses.

Since you are not traveling for some months this is a great time to get on paper just what your hopes are from this experience. This is also part of the enjoyment before you set off.

To begin with list all the countries and cities you would like to travel to.
Adding the amount of time you would like to spend there.
This will give you some idea of the funding you will need.

To this you add in the sports or other activities you would like to do, and the cost associated with this.

Then find out which Visas you will require based on your nationality and where you will get then while traveling. Factor this cost into your budget.

Check out any inoculations you'll need this is based on the countries you are traveling in, your healthcare professional will advice. Factor this cost into your budget.

Think about do you want a round the world flight ticket. Always read the small print when buying rtw tickets, altering dates and routes can be more expensive in some airline alliances. You could purchase as you travel.
Consider how you'll travel in the countries will it be by train, boat, coach or airline and the costs associated with the mode of travel you decide on.

See this website for lots of information for independent travelers.
