Hey karthik..

U didn't mention the month you will be traveling . If u r gang this time of the year it will be freezing cold. I wouldn't recommend going till march. Bt still if you are going for it, then carry every woolen u can even if it means woolen undergarments.. I hope u get the point.. And carry a bottle of rum or vodka to keep u warm if the woolens are not sufficient.

Bye.

Drinking alcohol in cold and high altitude climates is the worst thing you can possibly do. Alcohol opens your pores, so you will actually get colder, and alcohol at altitude is very dangerous and can make you more susceptible to altitude sickness. Going over the Himalayas in March is also too early, even in June the passes are often closed from snow drifts. July to Oct is considered the season to cross and the Indian army maintains the road during those months.

Hi all.
I am Sachin.
I have been to many road trips with my biker groups..
Hitch hiking would be anyways fun.. But I prefer to cruise.. May be a trekking (64kms long) along with gurudwara Manikaran sahab.. Its pretty awesome and would require camping.. Rest il prefer doing on my bike..
I have been to ladakh twice.. Once from delhi.. And other from bangalore.. Let me know if anybody is interested to trip along or needs help or just some suggestions.. Drop by. -snip-

[ Edit: Sorry, no personal details please. ]

Just for ur info Nisha.. Ladakh from manali side u cant do before June as the gates remain closed.. Do know the status online on Leh's official site before u plan to leav.. Otherwise u will have to wait really long for hitch hiking..

Dodger is right.!
Never ever make this mistake of drinking alcohol till u r literally not used to do it at such an high altitude.. U will vomit.. Dehyderate urself completely then 2 things will happen.. In less oxygen areas u wont be able to do things and would need medical care.. And in areas like PANG/SARCHU u can even die.. I mean i am exaggerating.. But possibility is there.. So relax.. Ur warmers would be enough.. :)
Also. If u travel out of the period from june-september, u will find black ice(google it) on roads.. if travelling by bike it would be the most riskiest thing u could ever do to urself.. So wait for next year.. Hav a safe trip.. :) if u want u can join us too..

Is this thread/trip still on? I am 22 years old, from Bangalore. I am planning to do this trip in Summer too, could I join anyone for hitchhiking? Nisha? Anyone?

Hi Eric,

We would be doing the trip about June- July. Would you stay until then?

May you see as colourful and crazy an India as I see :)

Hello Abhinav,

I have a lot of questions for you.
For starters, do you think June (hiking via the route if buses aren't functional yet) is a good idea? I have ruled out July cz of the festival you had mentioned. A maddening crowd is the last thing i would want to see in the serene valley?

I could use some of your advice. Thank

Dodger and Sachin,

Thank you! For the great great advice about alcohol consumption. I have a personal dislike for mixing alcohol and travelling; your advice backs up my dislike with fact.

Hi Sachin again,

i have done Kasol- Manikaran- Bershani- Parvati Valley- Kheer Ganga. Hiked during the day. You're right! The kind of serenity and vast beauty, the sense of liberation, that is hard to describe in words.

i will make a point to check the Leh website. Thank you!
