I am going to be leaving London around September 20th for an extended overland tour of West Africa, and then going on to Ethiopia and East Africa, finally ending in SA. I figure it will take about 8-9 months. If you are interested in joining me, or have similar plans, please contact me. I will be in London from Sept 16th on.

I am an older American, speak French well enough to stay out of trouble and am very accommodating to others. I would love to hear from others who have done this trip recently and what were their experiences. I expect to use public transport, unless we can meet someone with a vehicle.

I have created a trip with the Travellerspoint Planner, if you want to look at it. Hope to hear soon.

Looks like a dream trip, David! You are very brave to be travelling through Mali (even southern Mali) these days. I hope you don't run into any trouble.

I really wish I could go with you. Alas, time and money and a 2-year-old son won't allow it.

Yes, I am concerned about Mali, though there really isn't anyway round it. Perhaps if things are really dicey, I can go through Senegal for as long as possible.

There is a great blog at http://familyinafrica.wordpress.com/ about a family traveling the length of Africa with a 2 1/2 year old. From Ethiopia south, they are doing pretty much what I am planning on doing. It is a great read with lots of information.

Thanks for the encouragement.

David
