I am planning a trip through Southeast Asia and to Nepal and India. I am most likely traveling alone and on a pretty tight budget. I am a young, small woman and since I am no where near fluent in the languages I will be immersed in, I was hoping someone could give me advice for safe independent travel that is also affordable.

I have been looking up travel tour groups, but these tend to be pretty expensive. For India and possibly Nepal, I am probably going to be WWOOFing, but I want to be able to tour all of these countries during my time here.

Southeast Asia I just want to tour there..I'd love to go to Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, and hopefully Indonesia. I have been looking at volunteer/travel programs, but still run a pretty high price range for my budget and the amount of places I would like to go.

I know all about couchsurfing and the other ways to travel cheaply, but like I said, I am traveling independently and a girl and I think I would feel safer traveling with a group rather than being left to my own devices in a busy city where I don't know the language.

Are there any programs that I don't know about that are affordable and well-run? Any travel advice that allows me to travel cheaply as well as safely would be much appreciated. Thanks

I have friends in Phnom Penh that help orphans and poor families with: food, shelter, schooling, medical, etc. They can always use another volunteer. No fees involved. If this something you might want to pursue, send me a PM.

learned something valuable on that trip about traveling solo: A camera is a good prop. As a somewhat shy person, my first line of defense is to reach for a book.
