The Tourist Hotel of Lucerne is pretty good. It is about a 5 minute walk from the train station. You have to cross the lake via the wooden bridge. I think the bridge is called Spruebrucke. The hotel is right across the bridge. It is a convenient location and the hotel is good. Hope this helps.

There's a really nice hostel in Lucerne, but I'm having a total memory block and can't seem to remember what it's called. I just checked my old diary from the trip, but i stupidly didn't even write it in there. I'm sorry, i wish i could tell you more. Its a really nice hostel across the street from a park and its not too far away from the train station. There's also an internet cafe not too far away from it. Hope this helps a bit! LOL!

I spent a summer working in Switzerland after I graduated from college (about 10 years ago) and was able to travel around on the weekends and my days off. I have to say that Lucerne was one of my favorite Swiss towns. It's very pretty/charming. I went to Zurich several times and don't remember anything remarkable about it, besides a fancy shopping district and perhaps some museums.

If you're into the outdoors, you can also do some nice hikes/walking in the region around Bern, near Interlaken, for example.

Have fun.
