Small request - Messages which appear in the message centre are listed by username, but when they get forwarded by email, the username isn't mentioned at all. Instead, they come across as teh real name which has been included.
I know very few people's actual names and as everybody goes by their usernames unless there is an obvious link between real/user name, i often fail to put 2+2 together - Is there a way that on PMs forwarded to emails that you can cahnge it so that the from is the username (either as well as or instead of real name)?
Hmm... maybe we can have something like "You have a message from Rich Perkins [Gelli]" as the subject.
Yup! Not a problem at all.
Now, we just have to wait for Peter to do it.
Maybe it's just me, but I don't really understand why the person's real name has to be displayed on PM's anyhow
Because most people don't know real names and it makes no difference. The forum works on Usernames, not real ones.
But having both there is fine. Cheers Peter!
Thanks Gelli ... My sentiments exactly
Ok, well let me explain. The reason to display the full name is mostly historic, but still relevant.
When we first started the site, the main feature were the travel reunions. In our opinion, when someone is trying to find an old friend and gets a message from X it might not ring a bell, but when you get a message from your long lost buddy John Smith, it could be quite exciting! It might be the difference between reading the email and flagging it as spam. As this was the original purpose of the messaging system, that's how we set it up. Since then, we developed the forums and travel help features which use the messaging heavily.
However, we still consider the reunions feature an important one and do regularly get emails from people who have found long lost friends. As such, we haven't decided to get rid of the full names.
Well, there you have it any more questions, just ask
