Ok are you going out on a WHV? whats in Melbourne for you?

Im booked into a Hostel for the 1st week, I plan on buying a campervan and heading down the coast and to be in Sydney for NYE, then make my way to Ayers rock, Darwin then to Perth

This sounds like what I'm planning, but got no one to rent a campervan with.

Are you going alone?

Sydney on NYE is a must so that sounds like a plan.

Where else are you planning on stopping and how long are you going for?

Mollie :)

Hi,

Im heading to Cairns at the end of October on my own which is a bit daunting.

I am planning on booking into a hostel for the 1st week and just see what happens. I see that there are some package things you can do like BUNAC, is anyone doing these or just sorting things themselves?

Hi Sarah Jayne

I'm going through Bunac. A lot of people I've spoken to on here are doing everything on their own but I prefer the Bunac option for peace of mind. They help you find a job, place to live, sort your bank account and tax number and much more and they don't take a cut of your wages as it's all pre paid!

Have you booked anything?

sort your bank account and tax number

For what it's worth (for other people considering going this route), these are absolutely trivial things, which you do not need help with. (Walk into any bank branch with AUD $50 and your passport, tell them you want to open a bank account, fill in some forms, tell them to send your debit card to your hostel's address, and not to send you bank statements, and walk out 15 minutes later. And for a TFN, just fill in these forms once you've arrived in Australia.)

Hi Sander

Thanks for the above - do you think it's worth just booking my own flight and doing it all myself? A lot of people seem to be doing that and it would give me more money to play with.

Any help/advice much appreciated!

Thanks

Yes, I very much think so; it's really not that hard (speaking from experience - I did everything myself for both Australia and New Zealand). Also see this thread, where I (and others) say basically the same thing. :)

Of course, that doesn't give you peace of mind; but maybe actually having done these initial tasks will give you a sufficient boost of confidence that you don't need peace of mind so much anymore. :)
