Hi,

I will be travelling in this region for three weeks in Dec/Jan and would appreciate any advice tips, etc. We fly to Ushuaia on the 16th Dec for one night and then depart on the cruise to Punta Arenas where we arrive on the 21st Dec. After that we have no plans other than to be back in BA by the 5th Jan. Would appreciate tips re sights, accommodation, bus services, etc. Thanks

The highlights:

Torres Del Paine National Park is worth a trip. There are hikes you can do in the park for multiple days, or you can just get a bus tour into the park and see the sites yourself.

Isla Magdalena to see the penguins. Tours can be arranged from Punta Arenas or Puerto Natales.

Moreno Glacier - a chance to see a glacier up close, as well as take a hike on it.

You could think about taking the Navimag Ferry north through Chile up to Pto. Montt, and spending some time in the lake district, either in Pto. Varas (Chile) or Bariloche (Argentina). Details on Navimag found at their website www.navimag.com.

Greg

I agree with Greg. Torres del Paine (Chile) and Moreno Glacier (Argentina) are both well worth a visit. I definitely wouldn't go all the way down there and either. I rented a car in Punta Arenas and drove to both.

I couldn't find an "edit" button, and the previous post didn't come out right without the word "miss". I don't type very well. Anyway, if you like nature Patagonia is a Great destination.
