I am 26, from Australia and I am moving to London in January 2013 to teach primary school for a year or two. I'm looking at moving to Wimbeldon, Colliers Wood, or somewhere around that area in South London. Can anyone tell me if this is a good area? I need lots of schools that can be accessed by public transport, shops and a good social area with a good night life as I am coming alone and don't know anyone. I've been doing a lot of research and need somewhere affordable and I have found teacher share housing around this area in zone 3.
If anyone has any tips or ideas for me, I would love to hear from you.
Cheers,
Jess.

Hi Jess

Having lived in Colliers Wood I can tell there is a genuine lack of night life in the area, 3 pubs which dont offer a lot best sums it up. Balham has plenty of pubs and is ok and more so in Clapham which is pretty easy to get to and from via train and bus. Wimbledon has plenty of pubs but nothing really great in the nightlife area.

Other than that Colliers Wood is an ok place to live but nothing really exceptional about the place. If i had my time again I would of lived in Balham or Clapham but the rent in these places is more expensive than Colliers Wood

Hope this helps

jase007 lives in Wimbledon. Ask him what he thinks.

Yes, Balham is pretty good.
