Oh ace, where do you live in Manchester?
Ha you are brave! I looked into either the real gap one for a week or the ultimate oz but that one is way more expensive.
I plan to definitely have £3000 but hopefully more if I can save that by jan. I'm taking a career break so ill try and work out there and see how long the money lasts me.
I also looked into round the world tickets so I can visit California and New York on the way home, probably July time.

Libby, I am literally just planning on meeting people in Sydney. That's why I wanted to book a short tour when I get there just to make sure I'll definitely meet people lol.

Hey girls!

I'm travelling alone too and land in Melbourne on 8th November to work for five weeks, staying in St Kilda. After that I'm heading to Sydney, booked into Base from 13th December - 2nd Jan, then I'm heading up the East Coast from there.

The link to my facebook is on my profile, would be cool to talk on there as its easier than on here!

I reckon you should just take a leap of faith Libby and go for it! Having not really travelled at all previously I'm probably not the best person to speculate, but I imagine when we all arrive there will be throngs of people in our position. Fear not.

Well Han, Manchester is a mild elaboration on my part. I actually live in Stockport until I depart. I'm going with a relatively relaxed approach, I'm going to work until Jan and ensure I've saved enough. Book my flights to the cheapest city on the south/south east coast (Mel, Can, Syd) and hostel and then basically rely on the hostel staff to help me with my life ha. Then once I'm there, who knows! I'm easy like Sunday morning

Hi Everyone

I'm also heading over to Oz on my own in January! I'm 28 from London and taking a 12 month sabbatical from work. If I can wangle the extra holiday I'd actually like to be away for NYE... I'm still not sure where to fly into though if I'm honest?!

I have loose plans to meet up with a friend who is already over there and travel over to Asia around April time for a month or 2 before heading back to Oz again, so between my arrival and April I'm open to ideas on where to go and what to see...travelling up the east coast keeps springing to mind? I will also need to work while I'm out there to get extra cash together.

Mollie - you say you are heading over in November for 5 weeks work in Melbourne...have you already got this work arranged and if so how did you go about it?

Not the best of of the year to go up the east coast. From Brisbane onward and further north, you'll head straight into the wet season (which runs from December through March), encountering unpleasantly high humidity and occasional torrential rains. Survivable, obviously, and also cheap because of it, but all the same I'd recommend sticking to the south (or west) coasts (or maybe even doing New Zealand, which is gorgeous that time of year), and doing the east coast (or at least the upper half of it) after you've come back from Asia.

Hello everyone!

I arrive in Sydney on jan 30th. Looking to do some regional work asap for the 2nd year visa, anywhere, then will be back in Sydney to find work/house share/new friends!

Gunna try and stay somewhere quite cheap. Wake up seems to be the hostel of choice, Ive stayed there before and it is awesome, but one of the more pricey hostels.

Let me know if anyone else has similar plans, or even just for a few beers or something!

Cordington - loving your laid back approach!
